SFSEA appreciates SF Board of Supervisors President Shamann Walton's leadership on this legislation that will help gives a voice to the community with developments like an Amazon warehouse. The proposed legislation is a major victory for the community! If adopted, this legislation will set a major precedent for cities across the country to determine how these developments should move forward, given their often direct and significant impact on job markets, air pollution, traffic and more.
What does the proposed legislation do?
The proposed legislation would create an 18-month temporary moratorium on Parcel Delivery Services facilities in San Francisco, allowing for further investigations on the facilities' impacts on both the community and environment. The legislation would allow San Francisco’s Planning Commission or Board of Supervisors to impose interim zoning controls so the City can conduct a proper study of these parcel facilities’ impact on the public’s health, safety and general welfare while encouraging developments that benefit the city and its workforce.
Will the proposed legislation impact Amazon's proposal at 900 7th Street?
Yes! The legislation would include Amazon's proposal at 900 7th Street, as well as all other parcel delivery service facilities in San Francisco.
What is the approval process for the proposed legislation?
On March 21st, the Land Use and Transportation Committee will review the proposal and make a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors. The following day, on March 22nd, the Board of Supervisors will vote on whether to adopt the legislation or not.
